What Is The Best Thing To Drink During Exercise?
Most would agree the best thing to drink when you exercise is water. You drink during exercise to provide water that can be used for sweat.
Water is your best choice because it moves through your stomach rapidly and it is less likely to increase urine production. Popular sports drinks add carbohydrates and electrolytes which only increases the amount of time for water to be absorbed and in turn used for sweat. Research shows drinking electrolyte and carbohydrate fluids is probably not necessary unless you exercise for two or more hours.
Current wisdom states it is best to consume drinks that are approximately equal to the electrolyte content of sweat but with a glucose concentration of no more than 6% to 8% such as gatorade or exceed fluid replacement and energy drink.
