Transform Your Diet and Health With Fiber

Transform Your Diet and Health With FiberMost people know how much they weight. In fact, most s lot of people can tell you how many calories, how much fat, or how many carbohydrates they eat. However, when asked how much fiber do you eat most people respond with a blank stare.

Truth is, we simply do not know how much fiber we consume and yet it is undeniably one of the most important dietary considerations we can make.

Studies show the average adult eats about 15 grams of fiber per day. That number may seem normal until you compare it to the 21 to 38 grams that the Institute of Medicine recommends.

Is it any wonder constipation is the most common digestive challenge reported to doctors?

So the question becomes, “why is fiber intake so low?” Particularly when we know it is so important to our overall health.

It’s an easy answer.

A typical adults diet (children too) simply does not contain enough plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and nuts.

Katherine Tallmadge, a registered dietitian in Washington, D.C., and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) indicates if people would get enough fiber in their diet it would dynamically transform their diets.

Recommendations -

Start slowly, if you add too much fiber too quickly it can cause bloating and gas. It’s important that when you add fiber you also add water. It’s this combination that keeps your gut working in top shape.
