The Power of Thoughts
Studies have shown that 90% of the thoughts we have today are the same thoughts we had yesterday. So, if you think negative thoughts, such as “I’ll never lose this weight”, chances are you will repeat those thoughts day after day after day… You didn’t fail at past diets because you lacked willpower. Your thoughts kept telling you that you couldn’t do it. Sure, you had good intentions at the beginning, but somehow you ended up sabotaging yourself with the same old negative behaviors.
Replace the Negative with the Positive
Studies have shown that two techniques can work wonders in terms of replacing negative programming.
Self-talk
Positive visualization
Consider self-talk to be things you say to yourself, about yourself. Self-talk can be supportive of your aspirations and desires, or it can be detrimental, creating low selfÂesteem and insecurity. We engage in self-talk constantly and it manipulates the subconscious.
You can replace your old negative programming with conscious, positive, new directions. In fact, self-talk is a practical way to live your life by being actively intent, rather than being passively resistant. Positive self-talk can paint a new internal picture of yourself, as you would most like to be. You may have heard the expression “act as if,” well, I say “talk as if.”
At the beginning you might feel a little silly about the self-talk. That’s your old negative programming rearing its ugly head. Stay with the self-talk and you will soon find that you look forward to it every day. As your attitudes and perceptions change, you will find that you can change your entire life!
More than Positive Thinking
You might say, “Well, I’ve been to many seminars and read many books about positive thinking and it just didn’t last”. That’s because there is a difference between self-talk and positive thinking. Sure, you were uplifted when you were at the seminar, but that was only an external change, not an internal one.
Positive thinking works only if negative thoughts are immediately replaced by the opposite, ,.positive thoughts. The correct use of self-talk is the key to making positive thinking work. Without it, positive thinking just becomes wishful thinking. You have to be your own motivator. The books and workshops don’t last because they are external motivators. With the self-talk tape you will learn how to become your best coach.
Guidelines for Self-Talk
Say your positive self-talk statements aloud (or under your breath), twice a day.
Fall asleep at night playing the same positive self-talk statements on your selfÂtalk tape.
The result: you will start to live the self-talk statements. Now that’s freedom!
