Research Shows Good Carbohydrates May Help You Fall Asleep Faster
According to an Australian study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition if you want to fall asleep faster you might want to eat starchy carbs before bedtime.
It’s common knowledge that carbohydrates with high glycemic index rating can elevate your blood sugar and in turn hinder your ability to fall asleep.
Researchers indicate “good” carbs pump up your levels of tryptophan and serotonin which make you sleepier.
At the University of Sydney a group of 12 healthy men 8-35 years old were studied by varying the amount of low and high glycemic carbs on their ability to fall asleep. It appears the men who ate higher glycemic carbs took longer to fall asleep and yet it no effect on the quality of the rest of their nights sleep.
