Refined Carbs Linked To Cancer

Refined Carbs Linked To CancerIt is common knowledge that eating refined carbohydrates is not a healthy choice. It’s a little difficult to escape given the prevalence of refined foods in our modern diets, they are everywhere. Now a study out of the journal of Cancer Epidemiology, Mile Markers, and Prevention shows evidence of a link between the eating of refined carbohydrates and cancer.

Researchers are suspicious of insulin levels and the fact that refined carbs which are generally high on the glycemic index actually accelerate insulin production.

Bottom line:

Researchers warn we should avoid processed carbohydrates as much as we can. They also note we should also avoid chemical additives that are found in processed foods, especially artificial sweeteners and chemical taste enhancers, to avoid trading one bad for another.

Rule of thumb…

Eat as low to the ground as possible, meaning natural foods found in nature, such as whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits and healthy oils.

What do the recomendations mean.
I understand that “Good” is good, but it it better than “Allowed”. What does “Limited” and “Very Limited” mean and how do they relate to the others? I understand Avoid.

OMG you people! Fighting over a tsp of tabasco sauce… Still I don’t agree with accusations made about “Mexican” food.
Some ingredients are helpful to lose weight but it never means a whole population that consume them should be skinny! Look at “Chinese” people who drink gallons of oolong tea… For what I know, there are a few “plump” Asians in Asia.
My mother is Spanish (from Spain) and lives in Provence. Her diet IS the Mediterranean one. Well, she still wonders how French Women Don’t Get Fat. She eats everything they eat as well. And she’s close to 200lbs. Well, from what I know, she eats WAY too much food and loves crap (namely KFC, praise the lord).
HOWEVER, she regularly have her blood tested, hoping that newly found cholesterol would compell her to diet… Nope, she’s healthy as a rock. Damn it.
So before blaming Hispanics/Mexicans… Come on… Are you gonna say that they’re shorter than Americans because of the heat in Mexico?! I mean, look at cactuses.
WE ALL KNOW THE WORST DIET EVER HAS BEEN FOUND IN THE U.S. IT’S COMMON KNOWLEDGE.

Salads, soups and the concern for the weight of Latin Americans aside, I found this bit of info very helpful. It’s too bad that most bloggs consist of “Who’s the smartest?” It doesn’t take a PHD to know that fruits and veggies are good for you. I just like to know why, and you covered that nicely. Thanks!

Mexicans are fat because they have a high fat diet. They eat a lot of pork and other high fat foods not in moderation.

Good site. But thermogenic foods can only help when you also follow a healthy diet at the same time. All thermogenic foods actually do is give you that little bit extra help that most sensible dieters need.

In response to #4 chudd- apparently stereotypes are not far from your imagination. Have you been to Spain or actually been to Mexico…I have made several trips and do not see very many over weight people. Maybe you should join the 21st century and let go of your biases against other cultures.

the person who said that mexicans and indians are fat is an idiot. first of all did you say indian as in native american? second of all you have no idea what a traditional mexican meal is like. do you think that mexicans eat taco bell every day? please get a clue about the difference between real mexican food and commercialized, americanized, mexican food.

I found the article very informative and helpful. I am actually doing research for a friend who is struggling with thyroid problems. I have visited other websites but found the imformation I was looking for here. Good Job!!! Oh, and by the way Chudd, GET A LIFE!!

Good Job!!! Chudd, GET A LIFE!!! :)

Type your comment here. The weight loss group that I belong to recommended thermogenic foods as an AID in my journey to a normal weight. I am very willing to try anything along with a low fat healthy eating diet. I never thought for a minute that this article slammed any nationality. You also have to use your common sense when reading anything.

I believe the information presented is a great guide for any person to work tword thier personal goals for a better diet. In all the studies I have done I can see how these foods could help the body’s metabolism. Most of the foods listed here, are also used in many other parts of the planet. It may explain why the same basic foods used all over the planet give different reactions to different cultures of people. Cooking and combining changes many foods. When they are cooked, or improperly mixed with other foods, they may not digest well together.Foods are best eaten raw! p.s. people are like rabbits! they’re all mammals, and they all have there spots,,but they are still all rabbits just the same!

very informative site. thanks

You are so right. The media have distorted healthy carbohydrate use into no-carb diets, simply because people hate the idea so much that they swing straight back to buying processed foods.

Even the first two kick-start days of the Atkins diet allow you 20 gms of carbs, which would allow you to eat about 7 pounds of strawberries, if you had a monster appetite!

The glycemic index is the way to go.

This was a good article, the Mexican being fat thing, is stupid. It doesn’t matter what race you are, there are people from every race that are fat. Don’t just target one race. Zafwon is 100% correct!!!

Before anybody goes on about my spelling or grammar I will apologise in advance. Anyways… I would like to make a few comments.

The grapefruit thing works, as stated not just a diet fad..

Do not underestimate green tea.

Just a thought…. The salad everyone is going on about..
Soup is going to fill you up better unless you are willing to consume a vast amount of salad. Bearing in mind your body digests on a chemical level and your body temp is average of 36 degrees. Has anybody ever eaten a bit of lettuce or something? Or even cabbage? The shrinkage is great yeah? Soup does not shrink with heat. Point made there….

The Mexican comments… although the advice on the spices etc is sound in theory, the guy is only stating using 1 or 2 components of a Mexican cuisine, no fats etc.. I can see no reason to doubt this.

Anyway that’s my 2 pennies worth.

Sorry if I have come across as some kind of know it all.

Thanks.

On the soup/salad thing: Salad takes up more room on your plate than after you chew it up and swallow it. Soup doesn’t compress quite so much.

It takes the same amount of calories to walk or run the same distance. Substituting what you eat with these ‘tricks’ is sure to help you lose weight if you are replacing a Big Mac or a Grilled Cheese so I dont think it is rocket surgery.

eat lots of fruit 2.
