Lack Of Activity Not Food Creates Weight Gain

Well we all kind of knew this already but research conducted at the Oregon National Primate Research Center points to an individual’s activity level as the most constant factor in predicting weight gain. Most shocking was the research shows no strong correlation between caloric intake and weight gain. WOW!

“Many Americans believe that diet and weight gain are closely linked,” explained Judy Cameron, Ph.D., a senior scientist in the divisions of reproductive sciences and neuroscience at the OHSU Oregon National Primate Research Center. “Although in general terms, increasing food intake has the potential of increasing body weight, this does not appear to be the primary cause of weight gain during the adult years. An individuals activity level appears to far outweigh diet in regards to the factors impacting body weight. This is especially important to middle-aged Americans who typically witness a jump in weight.”

This is not surprising. However one should note
that the nutritionally bereft foods that many Americans are eating are causing a lack of vital energy. No energy equals little or no ability to be active! Too much sugar, alcohol etc and you’ll never get off the couch. Focus on low quantities of higher energy foods and maybee you’ll have the energy needed to walk that extra mile!

I disagree. I ride my bike to work on a daily basis (15 mins each way), I swim in the ocean and jog 3 days a week, I backpack on weekends and monthly I do a short biathlon spanning 5 miles (1.5 mile swim, 3.5 mile run). Yet… I still weigh 270 lbs on a 5′11 frame. I can’t lose weight if my life depended on it.
