Fast Food Eaters and Excessive Calories
Do you frequent the fast food restaurants? If so, next time you visit you might want to pack along you calculator for a good dose of reality. CNN reports that most people underestimate the caloric content of the fast food.
Gee, what a shock!
“It’s just an ingrained perceptual bias that we can’t control,” said Pierre Chandon, a co-author of the study and assistant professor of marketing at the international business school INSEAD in Fontainebleau near Paris, France.”
In a recent study which was broken into two parts people at fast food restaurants were asked to estimate the number of calories in the meal they were eating and in the section 40 undergraduate students were asked to estimate the number of calories in 15 sizes of a fast-food meal.
Nobody guessed right. didn’t matter if they were male, female, or overweight.
“It’s good news because it takes the real stigma out of saying, ‘Heavy people just don’t get it,”‘ said Dr. Madelyn Fernstrom, director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Weight Management Center. “That’s not true. What this study shows is it’s the amount of food on the plate that’s fooling people.”
