CBS Philadelphia Reports - Carbs Vs. Protein

Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl covers a recently released government study about the impact of carbohydrates and protein on heart health.

The diet match essentially compared carbohydrates and protein. It was not comparing pasta versus a steak, the study used healthy low-fat diets to figure out what is best for your heart

Margaret Smith tested a healthy protein diet, eating things like chicken, olive oil, almonds, and lots of produce.

Another test group had more of an emphasis on healthy carbohydrates such as whole grains and fruit.

“The protein diet and the unsaturated fat diet were a bit better than the carbohydrate diet,” said Dr. Lawrence Appel of Johns Hopkins University. Read the full story…
